Budget Buzzzzzzz
Rumors have been afloat all week concerning an "expedited" budget process this year. Staff members have informed us that parts of the process that usually don't take place until much later in the session are underway right now. However, all other observations at the capital this week show that it is very much business as usual". The Senate and Assembly staffs are preparing their recommendations for cuts and adds to the budget. Those recommendations will be presented to the members in several weeks. While there are always hurdles in any budget season, the distance between all three parties seems to be less than in past years. In addition, with things heating up politically on a national level for a potential "Kerry/Bush" battle, and members worried about their own elections back home, an on-time session is all but assured.
The Senate and the Assembly are on recess the week of February 16th.
Just a reminder to all, the Legislature is on recess next week. If you need to meet or talk with a legislator, you will need to call their district office. Some legislators will be on vacation, but many use this as an opportunity to catch up on their district office work.
