*********

Big news in Albany this week was the announcement that Eliot Spitzer, the Democratic gubenotorial hopeful had asked David Paterson to run on the ticket as his choice for lieutenant governor. Senator Paterson is currently minority leader in the state Senate. If he accepts Spitzer’s offer, it will create a leadership contest among state Democratic Senators. The state Senate has had a Republican majority since 1966, but in recent years the Democrats have been gaining seats, adding three in the 2004 election.
