Albany Update Volume 5 - January 28, 2005
BUDGET UPDATE:
On January 25th the Senate Finance and the Assembly Ways & Means committees held hearings on the Governor's proposed budget regarding Transportation. There were heated discussions concerning the MTA's request for $27 billion for capital improvements. Governor Pataki has proposed a $19.2 billion capital plan. A key to transportation funding this year is Federal TEA-21 which expires on May 31, 2005. New York receives 50% of its transportation funding from the Feds. TEA-21 renewal is the key issue in transportation.
