The end of session….
or maybe not! The legislature recessed late Friday night, June 23rd. The question now is—will they come back and if so, when. The Senate will probably be called back sometime over the summer to act on recent nominations made by Governor Pataki. However, if the Senate re-convenes they may not limit themselves to deciding only on the nominations and may act on other unfinished business as well (ie. bills that have passed the Assembly and are on 3rd reading in the Senate). It is rumored that the Senate’s return to Albany may be timed to coincide with the opening of the racing season in Saratoga on July 26th. At this point, the Assembly plans for a return to Albany are unknown.
If the legislature does come back, we do not foresee them doing any budget modifications, but there is still some money for cultural, nonprofits and economic development that can be tapped, and we are looking into it.
Be sure and contact your Bolton-St. Johns’ lobbyist if you want more information on the end of session or to discuss planning your legislative agenda for next year.
